The Common Denominator:
Part I, The Black Drawings
'The Common Denominator' is the concept that there is the same creative force behind any all forms of creation. It is also the idea that all artists create using the same source. The series of 10 drawings shown here explore the stages through which the artist passes during the creative journey. For me these drawings inspired and exposed a search for commonalities in creative process.
Beginning with out preconcieved ideas, I interpret forms and figures as I work. As a palm reader may interpret the lines in the hand, I interpret lines on the paper. Through a creative dialogue between myself and the work, this automatic drawing approach helps me to tease out subconscious ideas and distill confusion into clarity.
